Your landline now dies when the lights do
For 100 years your landline worked in a power cut, because the exchange sent its own power down the copper wire. That network closes on 31 January 2027, and most homes have already been moved.
A digital landline runs through your broadband hub, and your hub plugs into the wall. No mains means no hub. No hub means no dial tone, no Wi-Fi and no line for a pendant alarm to call through. Engineers call it the Copper Gap.
The rules only ask providers for a battery that lasts 1 hour, yet storms like Arwen have left UK homes without power for more than 10 days.

Handover time
The hub never restarts and the call you're on doesn't drop.
4h+
Of hub power
Compared with the 1 hour the rules ask providers for.
60s
To fit it
Unplug, plug into LineKeeper, plug the hub back in. Done.
How 60 seconds closes the Copper Gap
- 1
Unplug. Pull the power lead out of the back of your hub. That's the only lead you touch.
- 2
Click. Plug that lead into LineKeeper, and LineKeeper's lead into the hub. On full fibre, use the splitter so it feeds the fibre box as well.
- 3
Forget. It charges itself and waits. When the mains fails it takes over in the same instant, and hands back when the power returns.

Why the other options fall short
| Option | Hub runtime | Instant handover | Fit yourself |
|---|---|---|---|
| LineKeeper™ | 4+ hours | ||
| Provider's basic battery (about £85) | About 1 hour | ||
| Office computer UPS | About 1 hour, noisy | ||
| Phone power bank | Wrong voltage | ||
| Your mobile | Masts lose power too |
6 signs your home has a Copper Gap
1
Phone plugs into the hub
That means you've already been switched to digital.
2
A cordless phone
The base needs mains power too, so it dies with the hub.
3
A pendant or fall alarm
The alarm box has a battery. The phone line doesn't.
4
1 bar of mobile signal
Indoors, in a storm, with every mast running on its batteries.
5
Overhead power lines
Rural power cuts last longest and get fixed last.
6
Mum lives on her own
And she'd never tell you the phone had gone dead.

If Mum or Dad lives alone, order 2
Most people take 2, because the phone they worry about most isn't their own.
- Anyone whose phone now plugs into the hub
- Anyone with a pendant, fall alarm or telecare box
- Rural homes on overhead lines
- Anyone who works from home and can't drop off a call
Don't take our word for it — test it at your own fuse box
Fit LineKeeper, walk to the fuse box, switch the power off and pick up the phone. If the hub doesn't stay on, if there's no dial tone, or if you simply change your mind, send it back within 90 days for a full refund. No questions, no restocking fee.
You only keep it if it earns its place in your home.
Questions people ask before they order
Will LineKeeper work with my broadband hub?+
If the label on your hub's power plug says 12V, yes. That covers current hubs from BT, EE, Sky, Virgin Media, TalkTalk, Vodafone and Plusnet, plus the white Openreach fibre box on the wall. The adapter tips and the splitter lead are in the box.
How long does the battery last in a power cut?+
4 hours or more on a typical hub, from a 74 Wh battery. Running the fibre box as well, or an older power-hungry hub, brings that down. A small modern hub makes it last longer. Either way, that's several times the 1-hour minimum providers work to.
Will my cordless phone work in a power cut?+
Not on its own, because a cordless base station needs mains power too. Keep 1 ordinary corded phone plugged into the hub. They cost a few pounds, need no power of their own, and with LineKeeper behind the hub they work just as the old landline did.
Will a pendant or telecare alarm still work?+
Most alarm boxes have their own battery. What they lose in a power cut is the phone line, because the hub goes off. LineKeeper keeps the hub and the line up, so the alarm has something to call through. Always test it with the alarm provider after fitting.
Do I need an engineer to fit it?+
No. Unplug the hub's power lead, plug it into LineKeeper, then plug LineKeeper's lead into the hub. It takes about 60 seconds, with no app and no settings.
What happens if the whole area loses power?+
LineKeeper powers the equipment in your home. Your provider's network has its own backup power further up the line, and in most power cuts the weak link is the hub in your front room. That's the link LineKeeper fixes.
